Aoun: Smuggling of Weapons from Lebanon into Syria is Still Taking Place

Feb 23, 2013

BEIRUT, (SANA) – Head of the Change and Reform Bloc, Lebanese MP Michel Aoun affirmed that the smuggling of weapons from Lebanon to Syria is still taking place, and that the Lebanese state must control the borders and prevent extremists from sneaking across them.

In an interview with Al-Manar TV on Friday, Aoun said that foreign elements have set up centers on the Lebanese-Syrian borders to supervise smuggling and infiltration operations, and that these elements are the ones who attacked the Lebanese army in Ersal.

He said that the steadfastness of the Syrian leadership is a tangible truth that some sides don’t want to acknowledge, despite the fact that these sides had been proposing hypothetical dates for this leadership’s departure and yet it still remains.

Aoun stressed that the Syrian people are the ones who defend the leadership in Syria and give legitimacy to it, not France or other western countries, affirming that President Bashar al-Assad will not lose the current battle based on the internal reality in Syria.
