syria pillay yields to syrias enemies pressures

Jan 19, 2013

NEW YORK, (SANA) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, has asked the UN Security Council to refer the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in a new attempt to aggravate the crisis in Syria, thus yielding to the will and pressures of the Western countries that are leading the aggression on Syria.

Pillay claimed in a request she submitted to the Security Council that war crimes and crimes against humanity were and are still being committed in Syria and they must be investigated, ignoring the role of the countries which asked her to make this step in these crimes through their continuation to endlessly support the terrorists in Syria with arms and money.

In a strange paradox, Pillay considered it the responsibility of the Syrian government to protect its citizens against violations, while as the same time she denied, just like the Western countries do, the Syrian state’s right to combating the cross-border terrorism in protection of its people, a right secured in the Security Council resolutions on countering terrorism.

Instead of asking to refer the situation in Syria to the ICC, Pillay had better ask for referring the countries which are backing terrorism in Syria to the Court, particularly, the US, France, Britain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and holding them to account for claiming the lives of thousands of Syrians.

For her part, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos, said that she briefed the UN Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Syria and the continuation of the suffering of many refugees with regard to the provision of basic needs.

Amos admitted the absence of funding and support to the UN efforts in this field but ignored any reference to the reason behind the displaced Syrians’ sufferings which is caused by the foreign terrorism brought from all around the world and supported by known countries, in addition to the immoral unilateral sanctions imposed by the West.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) can investigate the claims of the Western countries in case the UN Security Council agreed to this. However, Russia stated that such a move would be unconstructive and would increase the difficulty to find a political solution.
