When Ideology kills Smartness

Adam Garrie of “The Duran” stroke again:
In a recent article titled CONFIRMED: Turkey to end support for anti-government terrorists in Syria (linked below), Mr. Garrie indicates that the Turkish regime under Erdogan would stop supporting its terrorists in Syria and, instead, turn against the Kurdish separatists in Syria’s north. This move, Garrie writes, was “confirmed” – hence official.

It appears pretty sure that Turkey will do a lot to prevent the separatistic Kurdish terrorists from creating a ‘Kurdish state’ on Syrian soil, granted to them by the USA who again give away land that they do not own to motivate another gang of thugs to fight its wars.

Turkey has officially warned the USA, not to arm and support the Kurdish separatistic terrorists, and I can imagine how deeply frustrated Erdogan and the Turkish military must be: being the mad war-dog for the US against Syria for years, investing millions (billions, even?) of Turkish taxpayer’s Liras to topple the legitimate president Assad for Washington to then establish a Turkish rule upon parts of Syria, this has now all written off into the dust of history books by the achievements of the heroic Syrian Arab Army.

Instead of toppling Assad and installing a muppet in Damascus, instead of becoming a shiny neo-Ottoman empire, Turkey is crippled by economic problems and shattered by the threat of terrorism which, with all due respect, is mainly homemade in Turkey itself. The overall perspective of Turkey today, to me, appears a little dull.

I also agree that Turkey, abandoned, bullied and ridiculed by the terroristic West, now faces severe problems in dealing with its neighbors, Iraq and Syria, and finally simply has to come to the conclusion that reconciliation with Damascus and Baghdad was a far better perspective for Ankara than continuing being the hotbed of terrorism that destroys the whole Levant and already has severely backfired on Turkey itself.

But was a Turkish move away from Washington, Tel Aviv, London, Paris and Berlin, its closest terror partners, really only the result of the game that man at the Kremlin plays, as Mr. Garrie indicates? If Turkey would – to some extent, restore its ties with Syria, to combat the Kurdish terrorist in northern Syria and prevent them from creating a state, this, Garrie states, was due to the efforts of the Russian president Vladimir Putin alone:

“The move [of the Turkish government; SH] is a diplomatic victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin”.

Oh, really, Mr, Garrie? Is it only Putin you see on the chessboard? No Syrians defending their homeland? No SAA-units taking out ISIS and al-Qaeda? No Iranians, no Hezbollah, no Iraqi forces, no militias like NDF, no Palestinian or Assyrian brigades? Nothing, but Putin?

Nothing but Putin

Why would anyone ignore the obvious facts in such horrendous way? Well, we could ask Mr. Garrie but what was the answer?
Maybe you read again the sentence quoted from his article. To designate someone besides his beloved Superman Putin, Mr. Garrie maybe fears, could minimize the glory of Putin the one and only superhero of the universe. Even if the reason for any glory on the head of the Russian president was very, very iffy.

Neglecting facts, ignoring the plain, simple truth, fabricating propaganda… What does this say about the integrity and intelligence of Mr. Garrie? I leave the answer to you.

Apart from this: Let us focus on journalistic accuracy: Does the author deliver any evidence for the announced shift of Turkey away from terrorism? Does he provide any sources? Unfortunately, he does not – although the title “confirmed” would make you think the author puts his reliable sources up to the table. Obviously, he copied the statement of a Turkish journalist named Musa Özuğurlu who had made exactly this announcement – Turkey’s alleged retreat from the anti-Syrian terror-club – to Sputnik Turkey – linked below. Was it not the job of a decent journalist to check sources and gain clear evidence?

I linked the article of Mr. Garrie. Feel free to search for the source Garrie must have to use such strong term as “confirmed”.

But Mr. Adam Garrie, in his attempt to glorify his hero Putin, obviously does not need reliable sources. Unfortunately, he does not deliver any reliable content, as well. His de-facto attempt to falsify the real events to a Kremlin-unicorn super-saga is just another proof that ideology plus a lack of integrity has made this man deaf and blind.

It is pretty sad that a journalist does ruin his reputation such easily, just for a reason that, in my view, is highly dubious.

The author, born 1964, is a German historian and political scientist.
