The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has announced the new middle-class smartphone HTC Desire 500, which offers a similar equipment like the HTC One mini, but there are concessions in some aspects compared to the new HTC One mini, of course.
For example, HTC has not integrated the known boom sound speakers and the relevant dedicated amplifier in the new HTC Desire 500.
The new Android smartphone with HTC Sesne 5 UI, the HTC Desire 500, features a 4.3-inch Super LCD-Display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. In addition, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 dual-core processor under the hood, clocked at 1.2GHz.
According to the press information by HTC, the new Desire 500 with Android OS will have 1 Gigabyte of RAM, while the internal storage seems to be a bit low compared to other devices and the current standards. The built-in flash memory is just four Gigabytes and it is questionable how many free space will be available for the user in the end. At least, there is the possibility to extend the small internal storage of the HTC Desire 500 by a MicroSD card – up to 64 Gigabyte.
Other features of the newly presented HTC Desire 500 include Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, a Wi-Fi-n module as well as an integrated NFC module. Tri-band GSM and UMTS up to 7.2 MBit/s are possible with the Desire 500 smartphone by the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC.
There is no LTE-support in this android device, in contrast to the, for example, also newly presented Nokia Lumia 625, which comes with a LTE module, but unlike the Desire 500, the Lumia 625 is a Windows Phone, of course.
The HTC Desire 500 has also no support for HSPA+, too. In addition, as stated, the boom sound speakers on the front of the new devices are missing here, but at least, the beats audio feature is integrated in the Desire 500 by HTC.
On the front of the Desire 500 by HTC, which will be available later this year in the colours black and white, there is a camera that can take pictures with 1.6 megapixels and also features a BSI sensor. Of course, this front camera is meant to be mainly used for video chats, Hangouts, Skype and so on. The new HTC Sense 5 framework / user interface will feature some additional stuff for the images and videos on the device as well as the modern HTC widgets under Android.
Compared to other smartphones, the battery of the Desire 500 is quite moderate sized with its 1800 mAh capacity. According to HTC, the battery is able to deliver 17.8 hours talk time via GSM and 12.1 hours per 3G. HTC says that the standby time has a maximum of 435 hours. The case of the Desire 500 is made of plastic and the weight is around 123 grams.
The device has a height of 9.9 millimetres and will be shipped with the current Android version – Android 4.2.2, as well as HTC Sense in version 5, as already stated.
The new smartphone comes with the known features of HTC Sense 5 and from the HTC One or the new HTC One mini, thus, there is HTC BlinkFeed and several additional features for the taken images and videos on the device. First, the HTC Desire 500 will only be available in Taiwan, but it will later arrive on other markets and it is to expect that the newly presented HTC Desire 500 will also be available in several countries of the Middle East later this year.
There is currently no other price given than the price of the Desire 500 in Taiwan – there it is about 350 Euros, which is too much for this device at the moment. Quite expensive. The price will certainly drop soon.
