Syrian Sports Phoenix Rising to Victory

The Syrian sports Phoenix is rising to victory. Professional athletes are winning a competition in swimming and bench pressing — as Damascus & several other cities hold a popular Syria al-Salam marathon.

Syrian sports Phoenix, 21 September, Marathon fun!:

Provinces, SANA – Syria al-Salam (Peace) Marathon kicked off simultaneously in the cities of Latakia, Tartous, Aleppo, Homs, Sweida and Hama with wide participation of youth, athletes, artists, and media personalities.

The event is held by the General Sports Federation in cooperation with Syriatel Company marking the International Day of Peace, that is observed around the world on 21 September each year to recognize the efforts of those who have worked hard to end the conflict and promote peace.

At the end of the Marathon in the provinces, a marathon was held in Damascus city in the afternoon, beginning at the al-Jala’a sports complex on the Mazzeh highway and ending at Umayyad Square, with the marathon seeing considerable participation from many segments of society along with artists and athletes.

In the same context, the General Sports Federation organized a cycling event for peace with the participation of 200 cyclists who set off from near the Umayyad Mosque, touring Damascus streets and ancient souks, crossing 8 kilometers before winding down in the Umayyad Square.

Syrian sports phoenix victory in Taipei:

22 Taipei, SANA – Syrian swimmer, Saleh Mohammad, ranked first in Taiwan International Championship for ten-kilometer swimming, gaining a gold medal.

Head of Swimming Federation Firas Moualla said that this medal is considered as an incentive for Mohammad for his entry to the championship, particularly that many events are awaiting him such as Mediterranean games and qualification in Tokyo Olympiad.

Syrian sports phoenix takes home the bronze medal:

22 September Abu Dhabi, SANA-Syrian player Yahiya Abu Moghdeb won the bronze medal at the Asian Physical Fitness Championship (Bench Press) in UAE.

Abu Moghdeb won the third place with a weight of 59 kg.

In a statement to SANA, Head of the Athletics Office of the General Sports Union Tarek Hatem said that Abu Moghdeb’s medal is a new achievement for the Syrian sport, especially that the player is a person with a disability who managed to outperform other players in this tournament.
