Syrian Conflict: Iran’s President offers Help for Peaceful Negotiations

Iran / Syria

Hassan Rouhani offers to facilitate the peace talks on Syria.

Hassan Rouhani, the successor of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said in this week that the international leaders of this world must learn to peacefully cooperate and work together in the best interest of the people and called on all leaders to avoid stagnant situations that lead to Cold War-like scenarios.

The Iranian President Rouhani also stated in this week that the international leaders have to engage in constructive discussions and negotiations in order to avoid such Cold War-like scenarios and especially to prevent new wars. The successor of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran wrote a very interesting article to the leaders in the West and it`s probably as interesting as the recent open letter by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to the American people and the U.S. administration in Washington.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has also offered to help with the peaceful negotiations between the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus and the foreign opposition forces.

The new President of the Islamic Republic of Iran wrote in his article to the West, which has been published by the Washington Post, that all have to “join hands to constructively work toward national dialogue, whether in Syria or Bahrain” and that the international leaders have to create an “atmosphere where peoples of the region can decide their own fates.”

He added that the administration in Tehran is willing and ready to help facilitate negotiations between the foreign-backed “Syrian opposition” and the government of Syria’s President al-Assad in the capital, Damascus.

According to the statements and the article by the Iranian President Rouhani, he seems also ready to negotiate with U.S. President Barack Obama, while Obama has recently himself confirmed the speculations about his current situation and the possible tasks to prevent a complete loss of his face.

Hassan Rouhani will speak at the United Nations (UN) in about a week and probably prepared his upcoming speech at the UN by his article to the West and the call for negotiations to avoid Cold War-like scenarios and new wars. The Iranian President also urged all countries to interact with positive goals in mind instead of focusing on “frosty relations” that have been developed in the recent decades.

Hassan Rouhani, the new Iranian President who was elected in June this year, also stated in his article in the Washington Post that Tehran and its international counterparts have already spent a lot of time and “perhaps too much time” to discuss what they “don’t want” rather than to discuss what they “do want” and this is certainly true.

Rouhani added that this situation is not unique to the international relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and that in a “climate where much of foreign policy is a direct function of domestic politics, focusing on what one doesn’t want is an easy way out of difficult conundrums for many world leaders.” He ended this paragraph with the words that to express what one really wants would require more courage.

Iran’s President also stated that Iran under no circumstances would seek the production of any Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) and that this also includes nuclear weapons.
