Syria: Interview with President Bashar Al Assad 8 September 2013

Charlie Rose’s interview with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The American journalist Charlie Rose conducted an interview with Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Sunday. Here are the first excerpts of the interview with al-Assad that is broadcasted in the USA on Monday. Assad speaks English and he seems to be very well informed.

It is noticeable, that all the questions by the American journalist Rose proceed from false allegations.

He parrots the lies of the U.S. government. However, Assad responded calmly and objectively.

Assad answered the question of what he thinks what has happened on August 21 (alleged chemical attack in suburbs of Damascus) with the following response:

“We were not there where the alleged attack with chemical weapons has taken place. We just know the videos and the accusations. We do not know whether it really has happened what is claimed.

We know that our soldiers were hit by chemical weapons in a different area and they were delivered as victims to hospitals.

But we know nothing about the happenings in the area that is occupied by the rebels and wherefrom they set up their assertions, because we have no control there. When we have evidence, we will know more.”

Assad said about the accusation by the U.S. government, the alleged evidence and the videos:

“We’re not a social media-government, we are a government that deals with reality.”

To the note that John Kerry (US Secretary of State) would have presented evidence, Assad replied:

“No, Kerry only speaks about faith and of conviction. But here it is not about faith but evidence. The Russians have completely different evidence that show, the rockets were fired from the areas, which are under the control of the rebels.

What Kerry says reminds me of the big lie that Colin Powell has told to the entire world about the weapons of mass destruction before they started to wage war against Iraq.

He said, that are our evidence, but actually it was fake evidence. In this case, Kerry has actually shown absolutely no evidence. He just says, we have evidence, but he is showing nothing. Not even the slightest shred of evidence.”

On the question by the American journalist Rose, what Assad wants to say to the American people, to the US Congress and to the President of the United States, he replied:

“The polls confirm that the overwhelming majority does not want a war with Syria and there is soon a vote in the US Congress, who has been elected to represent the interests of the population.

The first thing what Americans should ask themselves should be what the wars have brought them so far? From Vietnam to today. Nothing. No political advantage, no economic advantage, no good reputation. The credibility of America is at an all-time low.

This war is against the interests of America. Why? Because this war will strengthen Al-Qaeda, the same people who have killed Americans on 9/11.

The second thing we want to say to the US Congress is, that we expect them to ask the U.S. government about the evidence that concerns the chemical fairy tales and the accusations that were presented.

We are disappointed with the behaviour of the government, because we expected a difference to the Bush administration. But they have adopted the same doctrine, with other henchmen.

They have to realize that they have no evidence and that they should return to the UN Security Council.”

Afterwards, the American journalist Rose asks whether attacks on American military bases in the Middle East are to expect if an air attack (on Syria) takes place. Assad replied: “You can expect anything,” and he repeated this warning.

“Not necessarily by the governments (in the Middle East), because they are not the only players in this region. There are many different groups with different ideologies in this region.”

When asked what he means with “you can expect anything”, Assad replied:

“Everything is possible. However I am not a clairvoyant. You should not think that the terrorists (in Syria) only play. You will pay the price.

We have warned you at that time, that there will be consequences, but nobody has expected 9/11. It’s all on the verge of an explosion.”

Afterwards, the statement by John Kerry is shown, and Kerry tells the same old lyre, that they would know this and that, but he is not able to provide concrete evidence to substantiate the accusations.

The full interview with Bashar al-Assad will be published tomorrow (today).
