Russia: US Pressure for Anti-Syria Resolution is illogical

Syria: Tunis urges Iran to support the finding of political solution to Syrian conflict.

Today, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has not only announced at the parliament in Moscow that the UN chemical weapons experts will return to Syria in order to continue their investigation of the use of chemical weapons in the Arab country, but the Foreign Minister of Russia also said that the pressure by Washington regarding the upcoming resolution on Syria at the UN Security Council (UNSC) is “illogical” – and all this while Tunisia has called on Tehran to support the finding of a peaceful and political solution to the conflict in Syria.

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has thus not only confirmed the return of the UN chemical weapons experts to Syria in next week, but also criticized the US attempts to blackmail Moscow in terms of the planned resolution at the UN Security Council (UNSC), which is meant to pave the path for the US-Russian deal on Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.

The chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria will be put under an international supervision, certainly with the help of experts from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) while troops of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) may provide the security for the experts of the UN and OPCW. Afterwards, the chemical weapons of Syria are scheduled to be destroyed.

However, there has to be a resolution by the UN Security Council (UNSC) first, and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) needs to provide a roadmap with deadline regarding the US-Russia deal on Syria’s chemical weapons and the plan for the destruction of Syria’s chemical arsenals.

As mentioned, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has criticized the attempts by the United States to put pressure on Moscow so that the Russian administration would agree to a resolution that includes a reference to the Chapter 7 of the UN Charter. While the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has recently said that Washington attempts to blackmail Moscow in terms of the draft resolution on Syria, it seems clear that Russia will never give in to such an attempt and pressure by the U.S. administration of President Obama.

Further, it still seems that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry cannot be trusted. After his lie towards congressmen in the United States, Kerry has agreed on the Russian initiative / proposal regarding the chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria but in the knowledge that Washington will try all means to put pressure on Russia so that Moscow will agree on the inclusion of a reference to the Chapter 7 of the UN Charter and such a reference would then allow the use of (military) force against Syria in order to “restore international peace” again.

However, Moscow strictly rejects such a reference to this Chapter of the UN Charter in the planned resolution for the destruction of the chemical weapons in the Arab country and it seems clear why such a draft resolution can be called an “anti-Syria Resolution“. And it seems that China will either refrain from a voting (as usual) or vote against a resolution at the UN Security Council that includes this possible threat of a military action against Damascus.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia said today that the pressure by Washington on the UNSC (UN Security Council) to agree to such a resolution on Syria is “illogical”, and that such a threat of a foreign military intervention in Syria has been moved aside but not ultimately lifted.

In the meantime, there are strange statements from Tunisia. At least, questionable statements by the President of Tunisia, Moncef Marzouki. In regards of the Syrian conflict, the Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki has urged the Islamic Republic of Iran to support the finding of a peaceful and political solution to the crisis and conflict in Syria.

Lavrov Kerry
Kerry: We tried all methods and failed. Lavrov: I warned your predecessor you’ll fail.

The Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki said in his statement that the world has to stop the conflict in Syria and the main problem would be the finding and reaching of a political solution to the conflict in Syria. Tunisia’s President Marzouki added that he hopes that Tehran will support the finding of a political solution to the Syrian conflict now with the new Iranian President Hassan Rouhani (Hassan Rohani). The Tunisian President made the statement on the side-lines of the UN General Assembly Meeting.

However, it is not like Iran has not supported the finding of a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the crisis and conflict in Syria. The remark by the President of Tunisia is questionable due to the situation that Iran has probably done more for the finding of a solution to the conflict in Syria than the Tunisian “government” in Tunis has done.

It seems that the President of Tunisia just wanted to trigger some headlines and look like somebody who is really interested in peace in Syria by calling on Tehran to support the finding of a solution that resolves the conflict in Syria. That`s the kind of hypocritical style, which really does not help any side and certainly not the Syrian people.
