Britain welcomes Russian proposal about Syria’s Chemical Weapons

Walid al Muallem - Foreign Minister of Syria

British Prime Minister welcomed Moscow’s proposal about chemical weapons in Syria.

After the Chinese administration has published a statement saying that it welcomes the Russian proposal about the Syrian chemical weapons, also the British administration and Prime Minister David Cameron seem to welcome the proposal that the Syrian government should give all its chemical weapons to the United Nations (UN).

A new statement says that the Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron, has welcomed the proposal by Moscow that the Syrian government in Damascus put its chemical weapons under an international control for a subsequent complete destruction of the chemical weapons. By putting its chemical weapons under an international control of the United Nations (UN), the Syrian government seems to be able to avert a possible US-led military attack against their country.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has said in a speech from Monday that in case the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad in Damascus will put all its chemical weapons under international control within a week, then there might be the chance that the Obama administration in Washington will not carry out a military strike against Syria.

However, while some say that John Kerry made a mistake in his speech by giving the Syrian government such a way to decrease the possibility of a US-led attack on Syria, other believe that US Secretary of State made this remark deliberately and just pretended that is was a slip of the tongue – in order to give US President Barack Obama an exit of his desperate situation.

The alleged Russian proposal was made during a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Walid Muallem (al-Moallem), the Syrian Foreign Minister, in the Russian capital, Moscow. British Prime Minister David Cameron was asked by British members of the parliament (MPs) about the Russian proposal in regards of the Syrian chemical weapons and told them that “If that were to be the case it would be hugely welcome.” Of course, such an answer by David Cameron is understandable under consideration of his current position.

The Prime Minister of Britain further said in his remarks about the Syrian chemical weapons and the Russian proposal that the Syrian government should put all the chemical weapons under an international supervision of the United Nations (UN), that in case the government of Bashar al-Assad in Damascus will do this and put its chemical weapons beyond use, therefore, under an international supervision, this would mean “be a big step forward and should be encouraged.”

Of course, in line with the remarks from Washington after the “Russian proposal” to Damascus in regards of the chemical weapons in the stockpiles in Syria, the British Foreign Minister David Cameron also stated that the government of Bashar al-Assad should not use this proposal as a “distraction tactic” to avoid the “problem on the table”.

However, under consideration of the Syrian government and the character of Bashar al-Assad, it is probably certain that the Syrian governance will deliver the chemical weapons to the United Nations (UN) in order to protect its civilians against a possible US-led military strike on the country, which would then only trigger an increased bloodshed and suffering among the Syrian population.

Not to mention the possible dire consequences of such a US-led war on Syria for the entire region of the Middle East. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the Syrian government in Damascus will put the chemical weapons under an international supervision within the upcoming days.

Meanwhile, also the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, although Germany backs the terrorist forces and US machinations in Syria almost since the beginning of the Syrian conflict, said that she welcomes the Russian proposal to put the chemical weapons in Syria under international supervision. Angela Merkel stated that this proposal by Moscow is “interesting”.

At least, the German Chancellor has also reiterated that Germany rejects a military strike on Syria. However, as stated, this is just what the German administration says in public. Behind the curtains, they do support the Saudi-Israeli-American agenda in the Middle East and also would support a possible US-led military attack on Damascus behind the curtains so that the German public and the others do not notice it. This would not be the first time that the German administration acts in such a way.

Also the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham, said in a new statement that the Iranian administration in Tehran welcomes the Russian proposal for the presentation of a US-led war of aggression against Syria and to put an end to the conflict and turmoil around the Arab country. The spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry in Tehran, Marzieh Afkham, described the proposal by Russia as an “end to the militarizing of the region.”
