A military helicopter of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has fired a number of rockets / missiles into the Lebanese town of Arsal (located in the east of Lebanon) according to the report by Lebanese media. The Lebanese National News Agency reported about the rockets of a Syrian military helicopter that have hit the areal of Lebanon’s eastern town of Arsal (Aarsal).

The Lebanese town of Arsal is a village located in the east of Labweh. This is about 125 kilometres in the north east of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. Thus, the village of Arsal (sometimes also Aarsal, Ersal or ‘Irsal) is a part of the so-called Baalbek district of the Beqaa Governorate in Lebanon.

The last time there were media reports about the Lebanese town of Arsal (Aarsal) was in February, 2013. A unit of the Lebanese army was the victim of an ambush in the town of Arsal. Two officers of the Lebanese army were killed and several injured.

The Lebanese army unit wanted to arrest Khaled Homayed, because he is certainly responsible for many attacks against the Lebanese army and security forces. He is also responsible for some kidnappings taken place in Lebanese territories (e.g. Estonians in 2011).

In addition, and this is the important information, the terrorist and dangerous Khaled Homayed works hand in hand with the foreign-backed “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) terrorist groups fighting in Syria against the secular government of President Bashar al-Assad and against the Syrian army.

Since some weeks, the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) terrorists also started with armed infighting between them and the Syrian Al Qaeda branch (e.g. Al Nusra Front), while the groups of the FSA have less success in their recent battles against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) or in the armed infighting with the Syrian Al Qaeda branch, which is said to be already more powerful than the terrorists of the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA).

Due to the reason that there is not much information currently available about the background or reasons why the Syrian army helicopter fired several rockets (missiles) into the Lebanese village of Aarsal (Arsal) in the east of the neighbouring country of Syria, it is to assume that the Syrian military carried out a military operation against either the armed group of Khaled Homayed or a group of the terrorists of the so-called “Free Syrian Army” (FSA). Both would be no huge surprise, especially not in this region of Lebanon.

So far, there is also no information available whether the Lebanese army or “government” was informed by Syrian authorities in advance of this air strike against the (assumed by me) terrorists in this area of Lebanon.

In addition, there is no information available about the success or any casualties with this (certain) military strike by the Syrian forces against terrorists in this area of Lebanon.

  1. ““A military helicopter violated Lebanese airspace and fired four rockets at 01:30 am [local time on Thursday] (2230 GMT) in the Arsal area, two of which exploded, causing damage,” a Lebanese security source said on condition of anonymity.

    No casualties have been reported.

The attack comes as Syria has already asked Lebanon to control its border and prevent the transfer of arms and militants into Syria.”

  2. Hm. Arsal appears, from the map (thank you) to be rather an isolated village, served by a single road. Lebanese authorities were not notified prior to the airstrike? Interesting – – Please keep us informed. Thanks.

  3. no problem.. yeah they say so.. but who knows.. there isnt a real authority in lebanon since many years (which is also a reason for the problems in the north/east since many years and the armed (hariri) thugs there since a long long time..)
