Road trip in Syria

Bashar Jaafari: “The same people who attacked you (Americans) on Sept. 11 are attacking us today.”

The Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Bashar al-Jaafari and the Syrian Greek Orthodox Bishop Louka El-Khouri of Syria have participated at an iftar dinner at the Greenfield Manor in Dearborn some days ago.

Of course, Bashar Jaafari as well as the Syrian Greek Orthodox Bishop Louka El-Khouri of Syria held speeches at this iftar dinner in Dearborn, where about 400 Arab-Americans were under the guests, in early August. In addition, the Bishop Louka El-Khouri has made new statements about the Syrian conflict yesterday.

For example, the Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Bashar al-Jaafari, said in his speech at this iftar dinner:

“The same people who attacked you (Americans) on Sept. 11 are attacking us today.” (Bashar Jaafari)

Further, Bashar al-Jaafari called the alleged Syrian rebels, who are fighting in Syria against the secular government and Syrias President Bashar al-Assad, what they are, terrorists and religious extremists who are trying to ruin and destroy the Arab nation.

The Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Bashar al-Jaafari also attacked the totalitarian dictatorship in Saudi Arabia, the so-called House of Saud, in his speech at this iftar dinner in early August. According to the statements of Bashar Jaafari, the Saudi regime is funding and arming the radical Islamists who are fighting in Syria against the secular government in the capital, Damascus. Bashar al-Jaafari said that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey are supporting the jihadists all through Syria.

The iftar dinner and event, called “Iftar for Peace and Unity in Syria” was carried out in order to promote unity among the different groups and sects in Syria and to show support for the secular government of the Arab nation as well as for Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. In addition, this event should promote a peaceful solution for Syria. The guests were largely Syrian Christians, Shiites from Lebanon, and Alawites. The event was sponsored by the Syrian-American Forum.

Archbishop Louka El-Khouri, patriarchal auxiliary of the Syrian Orthodox church, said at this iftar dinner that the Syrians are united despite their differences in terms of religious beliefs. The Syrian Archbishop El-Khouri (Al-Khoury) also spoke about the recent kidnappings of two Christian leaders by the foreign-backed terrorist forces in the Arab nation.

The Syrian Greek Orthodox Bishop Louka El-Khouri, patriarchal auxiliary of the Orthodox Church in Syria, stressed in his statements at the iftar dinner and meeting that the people in Syria are completely aware of the volume of the conflict concocted against their country by Western states and their regional allies.

The Syrian Archbishop further pointed out in his statements at this iftar dinner and event in Ottawa that the foreign powers will not succeed with their plan to divide Syria in pieces and that the Syrian people, despite their different religious believes, are a unity.

Archbishop Louka El-Khouri, patriarchal auxiliary of the Orthodox Church in Syria, further said that Syria will not be divided because the Syrians are aware of the foreign meddling in their country as well as of the foreign plans with their Arab nation. In addition, the Syrian Archbishop El-Khouri underlined the impossibility of dividing Syria due to the awareness of its people and their comprehension of the dangers of this conspiracy against their homeland, Syria.

The Syrian Archbishop El-Khouri also presented an explanation to the conflict and crisis in Syria and its early stage at this iftar dinner and event in Ottawa with the Arab and Syrian communities as well as the participation of Syria’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Bashar al-Jaafari.

While the Syrian Archbishop El-Khouri has called the handling of the conflict and crisis by the Syrian government in Damascus a “wise dealing”, he has also clarified, that the Syrian crisis had speedily transformed into a conflict which is clear to everyone, according to the Archbishop.

The Greek Orthodox Bishop Louka El-Khouri, patriarchal auxiliary of the Syrian Orthodox church, also said at the meeting, which has been arranged by the Association of the National Press Club and the Syrian National Social Club, that the Christians are being attacked by the foreign-backed terrorist groups in Syria and especially by the Syrian al-Qaeda offshoot, the Jabhat al-Nusra (al-Nusra Front).

The Syrian Archbishop added that also the Takfiri thugs attack the Christians in Syria and that these Takfiri terrorists and the Jabhat al-Nusra jihadists represent a huge threat for the Christianity in Syria. However, it is no surprise that the Takfiris attack Christians in Syria.. but it is appalling that the West continues to support this.

Hm. The Takfiris attack everyone who doesn’t perform their ritual ablutions in the manner approved of by the Takfiris. Christians survived Caligula and Nero, so – – yes, we will have losses, but so will every other sect and denomination in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. It seems that the thrust of the article, intended or otherwise, is to divide the secular population, and that is bad. Very bad, and the archbishop cannot be unaware of this. I’d be very wary of further pronouncements from this guy.

You could not ask for a better spokesman than Ja’afari. It is mind boggling that anyone here supports these terrorists. And I disagree that this article is trying to further the sectarian division. As a Christian, one of the very first clues that this conflict was much more complex than insisted on by our government and the media is that Assad has always had the support of the great majority of Christians there. He has worked hard to make Christians a welcome and respected part of the fabric of Syrian life and has succeeded. I appreciate his efforts.
