Russia: Chemical weapons proposal on Syria prevents US war on Damascus.
According to recent statements by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s proposal and the plan for the chemical weapons arsenals of the Syrian government and army obviates the increased threats of a US-led military attack on the Arab country. Lavrov said further that the recent decisions by Syria’s government and President Bashar al-Assad would make US-led military strikes against Syria “unnecessary.”
The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, also said in new statements about the chemical weapons stockpiles on Syrian soil and the recent proposal by Russia and decisions of the Syrian governance under President al-Assad in Damascus to put the chemical weapons under an international supervision of the United Nations (UN) and that Syria will join the convention that bans chemical weapons would make US strikes against Damascus “unnecessary” and this is hopefully the case.
Thus, Syria will not only allow investigations of inspectors from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) but also join the Chemical Weapons Convention. The inspectors of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will be allowed to investigate all chemical weapons arsenals on Syrian soil and afterwards, they will also participate in the talks of how to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons.
Although Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad said in a new interview that the Syrian governance in Damascus agreed to Russia’s proposal to put its chemical weapons stockpiles under an international control and to let them destroy later was not because of the increased US war threats against Syria, but because of the proposal by Moscow, it seems clear that the Syrian government also agreed to the Russian proposal to place its chemical weapons stockpiles under an international supervision in order to protect its Syrian population against a possible US-led war on the country.
Not to mention that the complete show sounds a bit like a staging. From the slip of the tongue by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry over the quick reaction by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the acceptance by his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem (al-Moallen) to the decision to agree on Russia’s proposal to put the chemical weapons arsenals on Syrian soil under an international supervision by the government in Damascus.
However, if this all avoids a US-led war on Syria, which would trigger dire consequence for the Syrian people and even for the entire region of the Middle East, while such US military strikes on Syria would also boost the terrorism in the region and could even be able to trigger a new World War (WWIII) under consideration of possible reactions by Syria’s allies (Iran, Russia,…), this is a perfect solution and it even offers U.S. President Barack Obama a face-saving chance. Either wilfully or accidently. Although, as stated, it all looks a bit staged and pre-planned.
But this does not matter as long as it really avoids a war against Syria. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made his new remarks in advance of his meeting with the American counterpart, US Secretary of State John Kerry, on Thursday. Both Foreign Ministers meet in the Swiss city of Geneva in order to discuss the Russian proposal for Syria’s chemical weapons and the new four-stage plan by Moscow in order to carry out the proposal so that the Syrian government in Damascus will hand over its chemical weapons to an international supervision.
The Foreign Minister of Russia also stated in his recent statement in advance of the meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry that the aim of the meeting with his American counterpart would be to find a solution that solves “once and for all the problem of chemical weapons in Syria” by the country’s signing up to the global ban on chemical weapons.” However, in terms of chemical weapons in the Middle East, the same would also apply for Israel and its large stockpiles of chemical weapons. Not to mention the nuclear weapons in the hands of the Israeli regime in Tel-Aviv. However, the double-standards of the West in regards of Israel and other countries in the Middle East are known since years.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov also said in his new remarks about the proposal and four-stage plan by the Russian administration in terms of Syria’s stockpiles of chemical weapons and the increased US rhetoric of war against Damascus that this solution to place the chemical weapons arsenals of Syria under an international control by the United Nations (UN) makes US-led strikes against Syria “unnecessary” and that he is convinced that Russia’s “American partners are strongly in favour of a peaceful way to regulate chemical weapons in Syria.” Indeed, we hope the same, although there is still a bit scepticism.
Sergey Lavrov pointed out afterwards, while speaking alongside his American counterpart, US Secretary of State John Kerry, who has recently lied towards congressmen in the United States about the “absence of al-Qaeda in the Syrian conflict”, that the four-stage plan to get rid of Syria’s chemical arsenals also includes the participation of international experts and UN staff.
According to the statements by Russia’s Foreign Minister in advance of his private meeting with John Kerry in Geneva to hammer out the details of Russia’s initiative for Syria to hand over its chemical weapons, it is important that international experts will participate in this process and that it is proceeding in accordance with the rules of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Lavrov also underlined that it is important to support the further actions and Russia’s proposal about Syria’s chemical weapons stockpiles so that the needed actions and upcoming developments in terms of the four-stage plan about the chemical arsenals on Syrian soil are not delayed.
According to the new remarks by Sergey Lavrov, the talks between all sides about the proposal to put Syria’s chemical weapons under an international supervision are important and will avoid a US-led military attack on Syria. Sergey Lavrov also said that this also gives a chance to discuss the planned international peace conference on the Syrian conflict in Geneva (Geneva II) in order to “take the current situation out of the stage of military confrontation” and to bring all involved sides to the negotiation table.
Meanwhile, the Syrian ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Bashar al-Jaafari, said in new statements that his country Syria has become a full member of the international treaty prohibiting chemical weapons. Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari, said in his new remarks that “legally speaking Syria has become, starting today, a full member of the (Chemical Weapons) Convention.” And true, after the Syrian government in Damascus has submitted all relevant documents to join the Chemical Weapons Convention to the United Nations (UN) there is a huge possibility that Syria is actually (legally speaking) now a member of the Chemical Weapons Convention. However, the rest remains to be seen, of course.
Also the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in new remarks in an interview with a Russian TV channel that the Syrian governance will send a petition to the United Nations (UN) as well as to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). According to the statements by Syria’s President al-Assad, this petition includes technical documents that are important and needed to sign the Chemical Weapons agreement.
After the United Nations (UN) and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) have received the petition and documents from Syria, the work will start that will “lead to the signing of the convention prohibiting chemical weapons,” so Bashar al-Assad in his new interview with a Russian TV channel. Thus, Syria is soon a step ahead of the Israeli regime in Tel-Aviv in regards of chemical weapons and the signing of the Chemical Weapons Convention. So, Syria becomes a safer country and hopefully prevents a US-led war by joining the Chemical Weapons Convention. Now there would be a good time and a face-saving chance for the West to also start to care about the chemical weapons arsenals and nuclear weapons in Israel.
