UN: Laboratory test of samples by inspectors from Syria begins soon.

While the United Nations (UN) have announced that the laboratory examination of the samples taken by the UN inspectors in Syria will begin in the upcoming hours, the American author and investigative journalist Wayne Madsen said in a new interview that any military strike against Syria is completely different from what happened in Libya in 2011 and that the US administration in Washington and the American people should be aware of this fact.

The samples from Syria, which were taken by the team of UN inspectors at a site of the alleged use of chemical weapons near the Syrian capital Damascus, will be delivered to laboratories in Europe in the next hours, according to new statements by the spokesperson of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Martin Nesirky.

According to the statements by Ban Ki-Moon’s spokesman Martin Nesirky, the laboratory investigation of the samples from Syria will begin immediately after the samples from Syria have arrived in the European laboratories.

The spokesman of the UN Secretary General further stated that the samples from Syria in terms of the alleged use of chemical weapons (e.g. Sarin nerve gas) near Damascus were sent from The Hague on Monday evening and will arrive at the European laboratories “in the next hours.” Thereafter, the samples from Syria will be examined immediately by expert.

Martin Nesirky, the spokesman of Ban Ki-moon, also confirmed that the UN Secretary General has discussed the possibility of accelerating the process of the lab tests of the samples from Syria in a recent telephone conversation with the head of the team of UN inspectors, the Swedish arms expert Ake Sellström (beside Angela Kane), who were recently in Syria in order to take samples.

According to the statements by the spokesperson of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the entire process of the investigation of the samples from Syria in European laboratories “will be done strictly adhering to the highest established standards of verification recognised by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).”

The spokesman of Ban Ki-moon further mentioned in his comments to reporters in New York that the UN Secretary General has asked the Swedish arms expert, Ake Sellström, to accelerate the process of laboratory tests of the samples from Syria – but without ” jeopardising the scientific timelines required for accurate analysis and to report the results to him as soon as possible.”

According to the statements of Martin Nesirky, Ban Ki-Moon and Ake Sellström, the head of the UN team of experts in Syria, have discussed several ways to further accelerate the analysis of the samples taken by the UN inspectors in Syria. The spokesperson of Ban Ki-Moon also underlined in his recent statements that the mission of the United Nations (UN) would be “uniquely capable of establishing, in an impartial and credible manner, the facts of any use of chemical weapons based directly on evidence collected on the ground.”

In the meantime, the known American author and investigative journalist, Wayne Madsen, has underlined the difference between the possible US-led military attack on Syria in contrast to what has happened in and around the war on Libya in 2011.

The American journalist and author Madsen said in a new interview that US President Barack Obama is “pretty much left to his own devices” now and that this is already a difference to what happened in regards of the US military actions against Libya in 2011.

Wayne Madsen further said in his new interview that it is also a difference to the events around Libya in 2011 that the United Kingdom (at least, the majority of the British Parliament) will not participate in any US military action against the Syrian government in Damascus.

The investigative journalist from the United States also pointed out that the President Francois Hollande in France has some serious problems with the French Parliament because the majority of the Parliament in Paris are “very reluctant to attack Syria.”

The author Wayne Madsen also underlined the fact that NATO Secretary General Rasmussen said that NATO forces will not participate in a possible US-led military strike against Syria.
