Syria: Battles in and Around Christian Village of Maaloula

Syrian Foreign Minister al-Muallem will meet with Lavrov in Moscow.

It has been announced that the Syrian Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem (Muallem) will travel to Russia on next Monday in order to meet his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow, while units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) are trying to protect the Christians in and around a mountain village in western Syria against the attacks and violence by the foreign-backed terrorists and fighters of the Al-Qaeda-linked al Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra).

Units of the Syrian Army are still battling against fighters of the al-Qaeda-affiliated al Nusra Front in and around the famous and ancient Christian village of Maaloula. The battles between the Syrian soldiers and the armed jihadists of the Jabhat al-Nusra, one of the Syrian Al-Qaeda offshoots, began yesterday when the terrorists of the al-Nusra Front launched an attack on the ancient Syrian village of Maaloula, probably the most famous Christian village in Syria and located in the west of Syria’s capital, Damascus.

The foreign-backed terrorists and the armed Islamists of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra) began their assault on the Christian mountain village of Maaloula yesterday. After one of the jihadists of the dangerous al-Nusra Front blew himself up in front of a checkpoint of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) outside the Christian village of Maaloula, the other armed Islamists of the al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group began with their attack against the ancient Syrian village.

However, units of the Syrian Army have immediately tried to protect the village of Maaloula its residents against the attacks of the armed jihadist group. Another incident in Syria that underlines the recent remarks by US Senator Rand Paul who said that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is protecting the Christians in Syria against the violence and terrorism of the religious fanatics and foreign-supported terrorist groups in the Arab country.

In their attack on the Christian village in Syria the armed Islamists of the Jabhat al-Nusra (al-Nusra Front) were able to seize a hotel at the top of the mountain and began with the shelling of the locals and buildings in the area.

The armed fighters of the al-Nusra Front have even surrounded a Christian church and a Mosque and wanted to rage in the church in Maaloula. However, the units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were able to fight them off and to retake the ancient Christian mountain village, which is located some 60 kilometres in the northeast of Syria’s capital, Damascus.

Further battles between the units of the Syrian Army and the al-Qaeda-linked jihadists of the al-Nusra Front have taken place in the mountains around the famous Christian village. And this while the US Secretary of State John Kerry has stated that there is no Al-Qaeda in Syria. Obviously a lie. No surprise that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has also called the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, a liar in terms of the alleged “absence of Al-Qaeda in Syria” – there are Syrian al-Qaeda offshoots active in Syria since a long time. Sadly.

The ancient Christian village of Maaloula is the home of about 2,000 Syrian civilians and the mountain city near Damascus was also registered by UNESCO as one of the tentative world heritage sites. However, parts of the ancient Syrian city were already destroyed in attacks by the US-backed terrorist groups since the beginning of the Syrian conflict.

Further, several foreign-supported terrorist groups and fighters of the al-Nusra Front have attacked the Syria city of Maaloula and its locals in several occasions since then. Some residents of Maaloula are able to still speak a version of Aramaic, an ancient language believed to have been spoken by Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, as mentioned, it was announced that Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid Muallem (al-Moallem) will visit the Russian capital Moscow on Monday in order to talk with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced the trip by the Foreign Minister of Syria to Moscow in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement by the Foreign Ministry of Russia, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem (al-Moallem) and the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov will talk about “all aspects of the situation in and around Syria.”

However, such a topic for their talks was to expect. Both Foreign Ministers of Russia and Syria will certainly talk about the chemical attack in suburbs of Damascus on August 21 as well as the alleged evidence in the hands of Washington, Paris and Berlin that should confirm that the Syrian government and the Syrian Army is responsible for the chemical attack against Syrian civilians. However, the alleged evidence, mainly delivered by the Israeli intelligence service (Mossa), is far away to be convincing evidence. It rather sounds like fabricated evidence and under consideration of the lies and fabricated documents before the war on Iraq, one is able to smell a similar situation again and doesn`t trust this kind of “evidence.”

The statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry also reiterated Moscow’s position that a political process was the only way to solve the conflict and crisis in Syria and that any military action that is not authorized by the UN Security Council (UNSC) would be inadmissible.
