WASHINGTON, (SANA) – Brian Becker, National Coordinator of the anti-war group ANSWER Coalition, affirmed that the armed opposition in Syria and the sides supporting them are responsible for hindering the implementation of the Geneva statement because their reject dialogue and persist in war policies under support from Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the US and the NATO.
In an interview with Russia Today TV on Friday, Becker said that the only side who actually wants to negotiate and seek a solution is the Syrian government, noting that developments on the ground show that despite US and Turkish support, the armed opposition will not be able to defeat the Syrian government because the Syrian Arab Army is stronger and because the government has a wide popular support base, in addition to the positions of Russia and China who will not allow the Libyan scenario to be repeated.
He pointed out that negotiating a peaceful solution for the crisis is rejected by the west, therefore the UN Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi can’t do more than what he already did.
