Russia: Military Strike on Syria provokes rampant Terrorism

Walid al Muallem - Foreign Minister of Syria

More and more countries share Moscow’s belief on a possible US-led strike on Damascus.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem (al-Moallem) had a meeting in Moscow today. Both Foreign Ministers stated in a joint press conference after their meeting in terms of the Syrian conflict and the US war threats against Damascus that any military strike on Syria will jeopardize the proposed international peace conference on the Syrian conflict in Geneva and only cause more violence in the Arab country.

Russias Foreign Minister Lavrov also stated at the joint press event after his talks with the Syrian Minister al-Moallem (Muallem) that the stance and position of Moscow in regards to the Syrian conflict and crisis is “immune to change” and thus, the position of Russia about the conflict in Syria as well as a possible US-led military strike on Damascus will not change in future.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem (Moallem) has stressed in the joint press conference in Moscow that any military action against Syria will delay or even render the planned international peace conference on Syria impossible and that only a political and peaceful solution is a real solution for the crisis and conflict in the Arab country.

According to the further statements by Sergey Lavrov at this joint press event with his Syrian counterpart in Moscow, more and more states around the world begin to share the belief of Russia that any military action against Syria will “only enable terrorism” and certainly won`t help the suffering Syrian population, instead a military action in Syria will only increase the violence and bloodshed in the Arab country and would even trigger dire consequences for the entire Middle Eastern region.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov also mentioned in a statement at the joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart al-Muallem that Moscow is well-supported in its belief that a military action in Syria will trigger and provoke a rampant terrorism.

Sergey Lavrov further said that the Russian administration fully supports the calls by the UN Security Council (UNSC) to bring back the chemical experts and inspectors to Syria so that the UN investigation about the alleged use of chemical weapons can go on and the UN chemical experts are able to complete their mission on Syrian soil.

Russia’s Foreign Minister also emphasised that the Syrian government in Damascus has reacted positively to the call by Russia that both sides, the government of President Bashar al-Assad and the foreign-backed external Syrian opposition,” should unite their efforts in expelling terrorists from Syria.”

Both Foreign Ministers from Syria and Russia said at the joint press conference in Moscow that they are still convinced that a political settlement to the conflict and crisis in Syria is still possible, although the current “situation is very serious.”

According to the Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, there is already more than enough evidence that support the claim that the “Syrian rebels are behind the chemical attack.” The Foreign Minister of Syria, Walid al-Muallem, then mentioned and example and referred to the testimony of Mother Agnes (a Mother Superior at a monastery in Syria) and said that this testimony suggests that the whole affair with the chemical weapons was a staged frame-up operation.”

Syria’s Foreign Minister further said that the Syrian government asks the Obama administration about “the motivation of US to launch a strike against us” and pointed out that any kind of “diplomatic efforts have not been exhausted.”

Walid al-Muallem (al-Moallem) also said in his joint conference with the Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow that the increasing possibility of a US-led foreign intervention in Syria “will first and foremost affect the peaceful Syrian population.” As the history already confirms, the first victims in any kind of military conflict are women and children, according to the statements by Syria’s Foreign Minister al-Muallem in Moscow.

The Foreign Minister from Syria also expressed his admiration with a large portion of the Americans in the United States for voicing their outright disagreement with the proposed strike.

Afterwards, Walid al-Muallem praised the administration in Moscow for their attempts to do everything in its power to prevent “an act of aggression” with can become a baseless and non-justified war of aggression in terms the United States launch the war on Damascus. Muallem further added that the Syrian side “holds in high regard the unflinching position of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.”
