Russia: Homemade Sarin Was Used in Attack Near Damascus

Syria: ANNA-news in Jobar

Lavrov: Homemade Sarin was used in chemical attack in suburbs of Syria’s capital, Damascus.

According to new statements by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Moscow has finally enough evidence to assert that homemade Sarin was used in the chemical attack in suburbs of the Syrian capital Damascus on August 21 and that the use of self-made Sarin nerve gas implies that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) was certainly not behind the attack near Damascus, but rather the foreign-backed terrorist groups.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov added that the homemade Sarin, used in a chemical attack near Damascus, was the same type of Sarin nerve gas but in a higher concentration than it was used in a chemical attack in Khan al-Assal (Khan al-Asal, near the Syrian city of Aleppo / Halab) in March, 2013. Thus, it is to assume that the same side was behind both chemical attacks in Syria and that the foreign-supported terrorist groups are guilty for both attacks due to the fact that the Syrian Army would not use such homemade Sarin and also because of the Russian investigation of the attack in Khan al-Assal (Khan al-Asal) against Syrian civilians and soldiers in March, 2013.

The Russian investigation of samples from the place of attack in Khan al-Assal (countryside of Aleppo) delivered first-hand evidence that Sarin has been used in the attack against Syrian soldiers and civilians, while the situation in the area of Khan al-Assal and the killing of Syrian soldiers only leads to the conclusion that the foreign-backed terrorists were behind this chemical attack.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov further said in his new statements that on the occasion of the chemical attack in the vicinity of the Syrian city of Aleppo (Halab) on March 19, 2013, when the United Nations (UN) did not respond to the request of the Syrian government of President al-Assad to send inspectors to Khan al-Assal (Khan al-Asal) in order to investigate the alleged chemical attack against Syrian civilians and soldiers due to the pressure of several member states of the UN Security Council (UNSC), Russia responded to the request of Damascus and investigated the case.

And the Russian investigation of the samples from Khan al-Assal, located in the vicinity of the strategically important city of Aleppo (Halab), led to the result that Sarin has been used in this attack on March 19, 2013. Lavrov added that the results of this investigation of samples and the incident in the vicinity of Syria’s Aleppo are broadly available to the UN Security Council (UNSC) and even publicly.

Russia’s Foreign Minister added that the min conclusion is now that the type of the used Sarin nerve gas in this incident in the countryside of the Syrian city of Aleppo was homemade and Lavrov also confirmed that Moscow has evidence to assert that the type of Sarin, which has been used in the chemical attack near the Syrian capital Damascus on August 21, was the same – only of a higher concentration. Sergey Lavrov also stated that he has presented the latest compilation of this evidence to the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov explained afterwards about the investigation of the incidents in Syria and the analysis of publicly available information:

“The reports by the journalists who visited the sites, who talked to the combatants, combatants telling the journalists that they were given some unusual rockets and munitions by some foreign country and they didn’t know how to use them. You have also the evidence from the nuns serving in a monastery nearby who visited the site. You can read the evidence and the assessments by the chemical weapons experts who say that the images shown do not correspond to a real situation if chemical weapons were used. And we also know about an open letter sent to President Obama by former operatives of the CIA and the Pentagon saying that the assertion that it was the government that used the chemical weapons was a fake.”

However, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has not mentioned anything about the presented compilation of evidence on the incidents in Syria by Russia. Of course, this is no real surprise. After US Secretary of State John Kerry has recently lied towards congressmen in the United States about the alleged “absence of Al Qaeda” in the Syrian conflict and also after the attempts by Washington to blackmail Moscow in terms of the upcoming resolution on Syria at the UN Security Council (UNSC), it seems that the US Secretary of State is capable to use several questionable machinations and lies in order to maintain the US agenda for the Middle East and the propaganda against the Syrian government and President Bashar al-Assad.

The Russian Foreign Minister has afterwards also emphasized that Moscow stands fully committed to the implementation of the Geneva framework of September 14 in regards of Syria. This means the Russian-US agreement and deal about the destruction of the chemical weapons arsenal in Syria under the supervision of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Lavrov added that the Russia-US deal did not suggest the inclusion of a reference to the Chapter 7 of the UN Charter in the upcoming resolution by the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Syria or any kind of possibility for the use of military force against Damascus.

While it seems that the draft resolution on Syria is finalized till the upcoming weekend, the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov added at the end of his statement on Syria and the results of the investigation of samples and the types of the used Sarin nerve gas that Moscow “would be very serious about any violation of the obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention, we would be very serious about any use of chemical weapons by anyone in Syria and that those issues would be brought to the Security Council under Chapter 7.”
